Form I-90 is the Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card. Lawful permanent residents use it to renew the standard 10-year green card as it expires, and to replace a card that has been lost, stolen, damaged, or issued with the wrong information. Your status as a permanent resident does not expire when the card does — but you are required to carry a valid card, so keeping it current matters for work, travel, and identification.
When to file I-90
- Your 10-year green card has expired or will expire within six months.
- Your card was lost, stolen, mutilated, or destroyed.
- Your card has incorrect data due to a USCIS error, or your name or other biographic details have legally changed.
- You were issued a card but never received it.
What we prepare
- Form I-90 with the correct reason for replacement selected and supporting evidence organized.
- Supporting documents — copies of the existing or expired card, identity documents, and proof of a name change where relevant.
- Fee-waiver request where you qualify based on income.
What I-90 does NOT do
I-90 is not for conditional permanent residents whose card is valid for two years — they must file Form I-751 (or I-829) to remove conditions, and filing I-90 by mistake will not preserve their status. I-90 is also not naturalization; if you want to become a U.S. citizen you file Form N-400. Imverica is a registered Legal Document Assistant — not a law firm. We prepare documents at your direction and do not give legal advice or guarantee an outcome.
Authority: INA §264 and 8 C.F.R. §264.5 (replacement of registration documents / green cards); INA §216 and Form I-751 (removal of conditions for conditional residents). Document preparation only — not legal advice.
