Form EJ-001, the Abstract of Judgment, is recorded with a county recorder to create a lien on any real property the debtor owns (or later buys) in that county. The lien generally must be paid before the debtor can sell or refinance, which often produces payment without further effort.
How it works
- The court issues the certified EJ-001; you record it with the recorder in each county where the debtor owns or may own property.
- The lien attaches to real property and lasts for the life of the judgment (renewable).
- Recording in multiple counties extends the reach of the lien.
What we prepare
- EJ-001 Abstract of Judgment from your judgment and debtor details.
- Recording instructions for the county recorder.
- A companion WG-001 wage-garnishment packet if you also want to garnish wages.
What we do NOT do
Imverica is a registered California Legal Document Assistant — not a law firm. We prepare the abstract at your direction. We do not search for the debtor’s property, advise on collection strategy, or represent you. For advice we maintain referrals to licensed attorneys.
Authority: California Code of Civil Procedure §697.310 and §674 (abstract of judgment and real-property liens); §683.020 (duration of judgment). Document preparation only — not legal advice.
